課程概述	This course explores the importance of the Bible for an understanding of Shakespeare’s plays. Students will become acquainted with Reformation Bibles, including the most popular and widely circulated Bible of the late sixteenth century, the Geneva Bible, in order to appreciate the cultural context in which Shakespeare was writing and to understand Shakespeare’s own manipulation of biblical text for a wide variety of purposes. 評量方式 Grading The course will be assessed through a research portfolio to be submitted in week 9 and a final research paper of 5000 words in length in week 18 進度 Syllabus ??1?? 課程目標	The course will acquaint students with Shakespeare’s biblical culture and thereby encourage a deeper understanding of biblical references in Shakespeare’s plays so that they can contribute usefully to this neglected area of academic debate.
課程要求	Students will circulate e-mail comments about the texts each week to enable in-depth class discussion of the plays. In the week preceding the beginning of classes materials will be left in the DFLL office which students must collect and read for the first class.

參考書目	A course pack of essential materials will be provided for this course. You should use the Norton Shakespeare (Greenblatt, Stephen. Ed. The Norton Shakespeare : Based on the Oxford edition. New York and London: WW Norton & Company, 1997) for class to facilitate discussion of all of the plays and to enable you to annotate your text. You should use Arden Shakespeare editions of the plays on which you will focus your term paper because these have useful scholarly footnotes and bibliographies.
